A newsletter with tips, inspiration, and stories to help you make and use art videos to document your art journey and market your artwork sustainably along the way.
June 25, 2025 You know those days where you plan to record your process… …but by the time you’re in the flow, the lighting’s “wrong,” your phone’s buried under art supplies, and you think, “maybe next time”? Yes, I get it! And here’s the shift to consider: In the same 4 minutes it takes to read this email from me, you could record real art footage that’ll give your future self the option to use it in your marketing later. This isn’t about turning your art studio into a video studio. It’s about a method I call: Just Hit Record. It’s one of the most flexible approaches to recording your art. The “Just Hit Record” method is super simple: Set up your phone → Press record → Make art! → Then stop recording That’s it. Don’t overthink it. Don’t rewatch it mid-process. Don’t talk yourself out of it. Keep your video tools (like a small tripod) nearby. Or better yet, leave them out so it’ll take seconds to set up. The goal is ease. The rhythm is: Record first. Review later. The feeling? Supportive, not staged. Presence in the art making, not performance on video. Art making footage doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to exist — to be recorded! Then you can review, edit, and post later. Or you can just keep it in your camera roll for your future self to look back on your growth. And maybe for future collection releases, studio updates, or behind-the-scenes peeks that help your collectors connect with you and your work. ... Does this sound like an easier way to record your art? I hope so! Still not sure what to record? Here’s a small selection of examples from my students and clients that’ll surely inspire you — click the video thumbnails to watch on each of their Instagram profiles: So next time you’re in the studio, use this method and just hit record. ☀️ Keep creating, P.S. Today is my son’s 5th birthday. 🎂 And you know what, I’ll be making art with him (and recording bits of it) for the pure joy of it. |
