This note started as a mini video, so if you want to watch/listen to this message it's here — or continue reading if you prefer…

It’s no secret that I watch a bunch of artists’ art videos every week.

I call these art videos in the wild because of how first learn about the artist — I stumble across their artwork *because* of the art video that they made and shared about it. And then it left me wanting to see more from them.

Is there another artist that you’ve discovered in this way too?

...

Today I’m experimenting with my video formats a bit —

By gushing about an artist because of their art videos so that I can show-and-tell more:

Here’s what I love about this “mini” art video by jewelry artist Elgin tom

What’s working to me —

☀️ The finished piece is filling the video frame which really lends itself to letting us see the detail and beauty in the work.

☀️ The background (beyond their hand holding the piece) is clearly where they’re making their art, with tools and works-in-progress around. This builds on the visual story of them as a jewelry artist without them saying anything at all.

☀️ For a potential buyer, the way that they are holding the piece helps us almost feel what it might be like to hold it.

☀️ The caption holds a simple description of the finished work, and it’s clearly stated that its available for purchase (now sold) too. This makes it easy for someone in your audience to know if something is available for purchase or not without having to ask.

To consider for yours —

☀️ When you’ve finished a piece, how do you normally interact with the work physically in your studio? What could you try recording some footage of? Let’s imagine that doing a trendy “reveal” is not an option. 😊

→ How might you apply this to your own mini art videos?

Reply and let me know!

Have a great weekend, and thanks for being here.

Keep creating,

-Zach
