This note started as a mini video, so if you'd like to watch/listen to this message it's here — or continue reading if you prefer…
I tend to not talk much about video gear because I always want to encourage you to use what you already have to make your mini art videos. But once you've begun recording video clips of your art, you may find yourself feeling some friction or frustration in the video process. So if it feels too hard to record anything while you’re in the studio, this is the first video tool I'm going to recommend you consider: Get a small tripod that has a built-in mount to set up your phone to record. My new “always with me” pick is this magnetic phone tripod stand because it’s easy to carry or even to keep on my phone all the time. And my other favorite compact tripod is a light saber shaped extendable tripod with a built-in phone mount -- and it can extend from tabletop to full standing height. Now, the exact video gear doesn’t really matter. What matters is that having a compact tripod will get your phone out of your hand while you're making art and empower you to set it up across from you to record while you're making art, or looking over your shoulder to record while you're making art. My hope for you in being “ready to record” your art is that there is minimal friction between “I want to record some of my studio time today” → actually tapping record. Then you can decide later what you want to do with the video clips -- whether they're just for you as a video diary of sorts, or you decide to use them in your marketing. ... Have a great week ahead, and thanks for being here. Keep creating, |
